Back To the Grind

Wow!

I am already two weeks into my final semester here at Tech. To me that is just crazy. It has been a hard week full of ups and downs. Now it is the count down to the real world. There are 14 weeks left. Hard to believe.

In 14 weeks many things will happen:
  1. I will graduate from the best school in the world - VT
  2. I will be a real-world- adult
  3. I will become one of the many many job seekers
  4. I will not be able to use my student ID to get discounts
  5. My life will be radically different than everything that I have ever know...
.... Doesn't that just sound great?

Obviously I am slightly freaking out now, but God is in Control. This I know, yet I have to remind myself almost daily, ok - hourly!

Now I am off to watch the Hokies beat Alabama! GOOOOOOO TECH!!!

It's been a while

It has been a while since I updated this Blog.

This summer has been a crazy summer! With two Jobs and a class my life and everyday has been very full. You think I would have been used to it by now with the kind of schedule that I had last semester. But No, I struggle everyday to find the strength the keep going.

Seeing that I am graduating in a few months (Like 6!!!) - Which is CRAZY! A lot about the future has been on my mind. Where should I live? What should I do? When should I do what I want? So many questions and so little of time.

Here is what happened today: I got lucky and got two Fruity Snack Packs for the price of one from the vending machine! Those little guys are so good!

Freedom of Speech?

Who knew in America you could be so harassed for simply stating your belief? So much for freedom of speech, right? (From BBC.COM)

Gay marriage row at Miss USA show

The runner-up at the Miss USA beauty pageant says her outspoken opposition to gay marriage cost her first place in the competition.

During the televised event, Carrie Prejean - Miss California - said she believed that "a marriage should be between a man and a woman".

She had been asked for her views on the subject by one of the judges, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

"It did cost me my crown," said Ms Prejean, after the competition.

The eventual winner of the pageant was Kristen Dalton, Miss North Carolina.

'Alienated'

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage," said Ms Prejean, in a section of the show that has become a popular clip on YouTube.

"I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman," she continued.

"No offence to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

The remarks drew a mixture of booing and applause from the audience.

Speaking after the show, which was broadcast on Sunday evening in the US, Ms Prejean said: "I wouldn't have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that's all I can do."

Hilton said he had been "floored" by Ms Prejean's answer, which, he said, "alienated millions of gay and lesbian Americans, their families and their supporters".

He told ABC News: "She lost it because of that question. She was definitely the front-runner before that."

Keith Lewis, who runs the Miss California competition, released a statement condemning Ms Prejean's comments.

"As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman."

The issue of same-sex marriage is a flashpoint in American politics.

Four US states now allow gay marriage, but many other states have passed legislation outlawing it.

From Congress to the Brothel

So I just read this book called " From Congress to the Brothel." This is an amazing story of Linda Smith and her passion that started the organization "Shared Hope International."

This book is a "quick" read, but not so simple to get down. It is really hard to come face to face with the facts of child prostitution and the evil that it is. The way it can steal life, innocence, and freedom is frightening to me. And the facts that thousands of kids at this very second are being forced into sexual slavery, makes me sick to my stomach.

Recently I have been reading a lot about children. I just got finished "Why the Least of These Matter Most" by Dr. Wess Staford, president of Compassion International. This is an amazing book stressing the importance of children in the church and the body of christ. There little ones are the future of tomorrow, they are ones that are close to God.

And the thing that continues to hit me is the importance of protecting and spending time with children. Praying for them, having patience with them, and letting them not "grow-up" fast. It is important. There are kids out there at 13 living like adults, when they should be enjoying life not worrying about their kids and how to survive. It kills me to read stories about what adults do to these kids. Just take the life and light right out of them.

All these stories makes me want to find a way to truly love kids and make a difference in their life like Linda Smith and Wess Staford.

Amazing.

A Few Thoughts Since The Past Post!

So it has been almost a month since I have updated on my life and my thoughts.

-Over Spring Break I was blessed to go to Nicaragua with NOF for my forth time. It was AMAZING! Holy Cow, I love those kids so much. They are so perfect and so beautiful. They have absolutely nothing, yet they live with such hope and such love that is blows my mind. They love each other despite the hardness and the impossibility of their dreams.

-A few of the girls I met were amazing. They have such dreams, and such a love. I really just can't over it. I must go back. I have to. I don't think that I could say no to them.

-Being back for three weeks now has been tough. I feel even more called to mission field. I applied to and was accepted to be a Compassion International Advocate. Meaning my work is to allow people to gain awareness through bringing people face to face with poverty. I hope and pray to be able to influence the world and bring Americans of all ages to share their life with a kid in need. If you have any questions, let me know! What is Love? (Feburary 21st)

If what we call love doesn’t take us beyond ourselves, it is not really love.
If we have the idea that love is characterized as cautious,
wise,
sensible,
shrewd,
and never taken to extremes,
we have missed the true meaning.
This may describe affection and it may bring us a warm feeling,
but it is not a true and accurate description of love.

How Can I Change the World?

So, If you can't tell already, I love helping others, especially kids in 3rd world nations. This is what I think about most of my free time. I try to figure out how I can help them, what I can be doing now to love them and help them (all 150 million plus of them) have a bright future.

I just recently got a child from Compassion. He is amazing, his name is Stephen. He is 6 years old and from just north of Nairobi, Kenya. This is just one kids amidst millions living in impoverished situation. I want to help more. So the question now is HOW?

Dell has this new Social Entrepreneurship Challenge/scholarship thing. This is an opportunity for college kids across the nation to showcase their social entrepreneurship idea, ideas that they hope will change the world. This is cool. I wish I had an idea. The only thing right now that I can think of to help change this world is feeding the hungry and showing them Jesus.

These are just some random thoughts. I want to do something cool. Something Life and world changing!

Anyone have any ideas? ;-)

I Will Go ... Send Me

I Will Go by Starfield

To the desperate eyes and reaching hands
To the suffering and the lean
To the ones the world has cast aside
Where you want me I will be

I will go, I will go
I will go, Lord send me
To the world, To the lost
To the poor and hungry
Take everything I am
I'm clay within your hands
I will go, I will go, send me

Let me not be blind with privilege
Give me eyes to see the pain
Let the blessing You've poured out on me
Not be spent on me in vain
Let this life be used for change

I wanna live for you
Go where you lead me
I wanna follow you

Send me!

This is the cry of my heart right now!
